Tips and Tricks for Stainless Steel Maintenance
Routine Cleaning
- Wipe with mild detergent and warm water
- Rinse with clean water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
Removing Fingerprints- Wipe with methylated spirits or other organic solvent
- Rinse with clean water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
Removing Streaks- Wipe with mild detergent and warm water
- Rinse with clean water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
- Rub with a small amount of olive oil on a clean dry cloth
Removing Stains or Discolouration- Use a rag or old toothbrush to rub the stain with "Jif" in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
- rinse well with clean water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
Removing Minor Heat Stains- Mix a pinch of salt with some soda water
- Wash with the soda water mixture
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
Removing Lime Stains caused by Hard Water. - Make a mixture of vinegar and water (1:3 ratio)
- Soak effected area then brush in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
- Rinse well with clean water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
Baked on Grease- Soak effected area with amonia then brush in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
- Wipe with methylated spirits or other organic solvent
- Rinse well with clean water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
Rust and Corrosion Marks- Add nitric acid to warm water (1:9 ratio) Warning: Nitric acid is a very dangerous material. Read instructions carefully prior to use.
- Soak for 30 minutes
- Wash off with plenty of water
- Wipe dry in the direction that the stainless steel was polished
What NOT to doDo not rub stainless steel with steel wool as it can cause problems with the stainless steel surface.
